Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
